From 2000 to 2014, the percentage of lower-income metro Chicagoans grew 16 percent. Middle incomers dropped 9 percent, and upper incomers grew by 6 percent.
In other words, as our middle class is shrinking, Chicagoland's class divide is growing. For our series on Chicago's middle, MPC Director Marisa Novara applies her regional lens as she takes the financial temperature of America's favorite class.
