Serious discussions are underway about the feasibility, costs and benefits of hydrologically separating the Great Lakes from the Mississippi River by altering the current design and operations of the Chicago Area Waterway System. There's more than fish at stake. Boat traffic, recreational uses, and all three phases of society's interaction with water— water supply, stormwater, and wastewater—would be affected.
"A Fork in the River" explains the relationships between these variables in order to inform the audience about what's at stake. It is meant to be used as a conversation starter. Its ultimate question, "Should we do it?" is up to the audience to answer.
