Our region sometimes struggles to have enough water, and sometime struggles with too much. Rain, effluent, air conditioning condensate, graywater—the technology exists to deploy these sources of non-potable water for productive purposes, helping with both water supply and stormwater management. All too often policy, perception, politics and finances get in the way.
Join MPC as we consider opportunities for reuse of non-potable water in residential, recreational, institutional and industrial uses, the impediments to implementation and what needs to happen in Illinois for these systems to work. We will explore the Illinois Plumbing Code, water quality standards, infrastructure costs, and the impact of non-potable water reuse on the revenue generation of our traditional water utilities.
