New CHA Web site and Virtual Service Connector launched as Transformation enters fifth year

A revamped Chicago Housing Authority Web site offers updated information on the Plan for Transformation. Also, a complementary online initiative brings information on the Service Connector program closer to public housing residents.

The Chicago Housing Authority's (CHA's) new Web site offers a wealth of information targeting a variety of audiences, including public housing residents, contractors, partners, and the general public.

CHA staff are enthusiastic that the new site will serve as a useful resource: “The CHA is reinventing the character and culture of public housing in Chicago, and we felt our Web site should reflect these positive changes," said Mike Truppa, deputy director of communications for the CHA "We've tripled the volume of content, putting special emphasis on our plans to redevelop and rehabilitate our properties as well as to assist residents in the relocation process. We think this Web site is a good example of how changes are occurring for the better.”

The new site includes detailed information on the CHA Plan for Transformation, including site profiles, a photo gallery, and a thorough section explaining how the relocation process works, featuring successful stories in video format. The  CHA Annual Plan For Transformation for 2004 is also available.

Additionally, One Economy Corporation has collaborated with the CHA and the Chicago Department of Humans Services (CDHS) in providing online resources to public housing residents through a Virtual Service Connector. This is part of a more ambitious initiative, the Beehive, which aims to make information on housing, health, legal matters, and other issues accessible to low- and moderate-income families living in Chicago and throughout the United States. In the words of One Economy’s CEO Rey Ramsey, the initiative’s goal is “helping low-income people reap the benefits of the Digital Age to help themselves.”
