National allies embrace employer-assisted housing

New publications feature Illinois successes and advocate for more incentives and champions.
As Housing America's Workforce Act -- federal legislation to provide greater national incentives for employers to invest in affordable, workforce housing solutions -- slowly makes its way through the congressional committee process, a diverse group of stakeholders are featuring Illinois successes as they step up attention to the many benefits of EAH.
PolicyLink recently sent out an e-mail newsletter spotlighting EAH as the latest strategy in its Equitable Development tool kit. REACH Illinois, in particular, is highlighted as a "tool in action."
REACH Illinois is also well represented in Our Communities, Our Homes , the latest publication by former U.S. HUD secretaries Henry Cisneros and Jack Kemp -- along with Nicolas Retsinas and Kent Colton of Harvard's Joint Center for Housing Studies.  EAH is among the many strategies featured in this bipartisan platform of housing solutions.
And, while these national voices speak primarily to an audience of policymakers, advocates, community developers, and housing professionals, MPC and Homes for Working Families is gearing up to release its own guidebook on EAH, targeted to corporate America. It profiles 10 diverse employers investing in housing solutions, including some working with MPC and REACH Illinois, in varying ways in a range of market places. The final publication will be available shortly.
For more information or technical assistance related to employer-assisted housing in Illinois or nationwide, please visit the REACH Illinois web site at www.reachillinois.org.
