Over the next 10 months, this award-winning multimedia public affairs series will present the issues, challenges and opportunities of creating a sustainable Chicago region.
MPC was happy to
join the Chicago Community Trust as it celebrated the launch of Chicago Matters: Growing Forward, on March 3,
2008. Now in
its 18th year, Chicago Matters annually brings together Chicago Public Radio,
WTTW-Channel 11, Chicago Reporter magazine, and Chicago Public Library
to delve into an issue from the perspective of each medium. The topic of this
year's series is creating a
sustainableChicago region.
The launch event provided
a taste of programming to come and celebrated Trust-supported projects that
have advanced sustainability . It also
marked the culmination of months of
hard work by the Trust in collaboration with MPC and the Center for Neighborhood
Technology (CNT). For the first time
in Chicago Matters
history, the
Trust enlisted outside organizations to help frame the major issues for the media. To this end, MPC and CNT jointly produced a panel discussion for
reporters in December that featured experts on the topics of water, transportation,
energy, and regional growth, as well as a follow-up reference guide for reporters
that outlines the major sustainability issues in the
Chicago
region and provides contact information
for experts on these issues.
