Time is running out! Register today for Beyond Showerheads and Sprinklers!

On May 16th MPC will host Beyond Showerheads and Sprinklers: Water Governance Solutions for Illinois, a forward-thinking conference to help shape state and regional water supply planning for the future... but space is limited. Register now!

May 16 is almost upon us, which means the clock is ticking to register for this unique opportunity to help set direction for water governance inIllinoisBeyond Showerheads and Sprinklers will be more than just a conference – it will be a vital and timely discussion on moving forward with a statewide framework for regional water supply planning that balances residential, commercial, agricultural, industrial, and ecological needs.  Illinois, which draws water from the Great Lakes, Mississippi River, and various subsurface aquifers, has the potential to be a regional leader in defining sustainable governance of our most valuable natural resource.

The agenda for Beyond Showerheads and Sprinklers, which is available for download, features regional, national and international experts who – along with conference attendees – will critique a white paper which recommends specific policies and practices to put Illinois on a path to a more secure water future.

On Monday, May 12, a draft of the white paper, “Is Illinois Prepared for Water Shortages?,” will be made publicly available on the MPC website (this hyperlink will not function until May 12).  The white paper has been prepared by Dr. Jack Wittman, of Wittman Hydro Planning Associates, for the Metropolitan Planning Council, Openlands, and Paul Simon Public Policy Institute.  Please note the agenda may change to accommodate comments from U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin and Chicago Mayor Richard Daley.

Who should attend? State and local officials, water authorities, conservation organizations, water companies and utilities, municipal water officials, agricultural and industrial water users, planners, and wastewater and stormwater management professionals.
