From June 28-June 30, national speakers and housing professionals will gather at the Palmer House. MPC is among hosts of the mobile workshops showcasing local successes
Register now through June 10 for the interactive conference, Solutions for Working Families: 2009 Learning Conference on State and Local Housing Policy in Chicago June 28-30. Organized by the Center for Housing Policy and National Housing Conference, the conference is a forum for state and local leaders to share information on proven housing policies. Key topics, featuring local and national best practices, will include:
Building a comprehensive housing strategy.
Increasing resources for affordable homes.
Building community support for affordable homes.
Expanding development opportunities.
Preserving and recycle resources.
There will also be interactive, day-long institutes on both “Foreclosure Prevention and Neighborhood Stabilization,” and “Window of Opportunity: Preserving and Improving Affordable Rental Housing.” Hands-on training workshops will focus on Green Affordable Homes and Building Community Acceptance.
Mobile Workshops will feature local successes in the areas of:
Regional Cooperation in Suburban Communities, including MPCs recent work with the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus and the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association on an interjurisdictional approach to the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. (Tuesday, 12:30 - 3:30 pm)
Housing Affordability in Affluent Communities, including MPC’s partners in the Charter One Workforce Housing Initiative in the northern suburbs. (Monday, 2:30 to 5:30 pm)
Building and Sustaining Mixed-Income Neighborhoods, featuring the Chicago Housing Authority's Plan for Transformation and Reconnecting Neighborhoods. (Monday, 2:30 to 5:30 pm)
Cutting-Edge Green Developments, facilitated by the Center for Neigbhorhood Technology (Monday, 2:30 to 5:30 pm)
Foreclosure Prevention and Neighborhood Stabilization in the City of Chicago. (Tuesday, 12:30 to 3:30 pm)
