Mayor Richard M. Daley to Address Chicago's Role in Building a World-Class Region

Mayor will headline Metropolitan Planning Council’s 2005 Annual Meeting Luncheon

(CHICAGO)….. Mayor Richard M. Daley will discuss the important role Chicago plays in building a vibrant region at the Metropolitan Planning Council’s 2005 Annual Meeting Luncheon, Oct. 26, 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Hyatt Regency Chicago, 151 E. Wacker Dr., Chicago. In what promises to be an informative presentation, Mayor Daley also will address his priorities in the areas of housing, education, transportation, and the environment.

“Every year, MPC delivers a crowd-pleaser with its Annual Meeting Luncheon, and we’re delighted this year to present the mayor as our keynote speaker,” said MarySue Barrett, MPC president. “Mayor Daley has long been an advocate of regional cooperation. In 1997, he established the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus as a partnership between Chicago and northeastern Illinois’ 272 municipalities, providing local leaders with the opportunity to work together on the issues that affect us all, such as housing, transportation, sensible growth and education. We look forward to hearing the mayor’s perspective on the current and future needs of Chicago and the greater metropolitan region.”

At the luncheon, MPC also will celebrate the culmination of its Bold Plans, Bright Future Campaign. Anchored by an exceptional $4 million gift from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation in 2001, the campaign was a two-year effort to raise $14.2 million to fund an endowment, support special programmatic opportunities, and provide operating support for 2003 and 2004. The Council will recognize all those who made it possible not only to meet, but to exceed this goal.

MPC also will present its 2005 Burnham Award for Excellence in Planning, as well as welcome newly elected members of its Board of Governors.

Founded in 1934, the Metropolitan Planning Council (MPC) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan group of business and civic leaders committed to serving the public interest through the promotion and implementation of sensible planning and development policies necessary for an economically competitive Chicago region.
