(CHICAGO)….. Chicagoland has a tremendous opportunity to
capitalize on its selection as the U.S. bid city for the 2016 Games, and some
1,200 Chicago-area corporate, civic, government and community leaders will have
the chance to learn how at the Metropolitan Planning Council 2007 Annual Meeting
Luncheon, “Going for the Gold: Chicago’s Olympic Destiny,” on Thursday, Nov. 29,

Keynote speaker, the
Rt. Hon. Tessa Jowell, MP, minister for the Olympics and London, was a driving
force behind London’s successful bid for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
She’ll
share
London’s
ambitions for the wider benefits and sustainable legacy of hosting the Games,
which many Londoners consider the key factor behind the city’s winning
bid.

MPC Annual Meeting Luncheon keynote speakers, Tessa Jowell promises to inspire
the people who shape planning and development decisions in
the
Chicago region,”

Barrett, MPC president. “The
luncheon is an opportunity to learn valuable lessons from
London
about strengthening
a city’s housing, transportation and neighborhood assets for the people who will
benefit long after the Games.”
At the luncheon, MPC will
welcome newly elected members of its Board of Governors and newly appointed
Resource Board members. MPC also will present its 2007 Burnham Award for
Excellence in Planning, which includes a cash prize of $5,000 underwritten by
National City Bank, to the northwest Indiana communities of East Chicago, Gary,
Hammond, Portage, and Whiting for the Marquette Plan: The Lakeshore Reinvestment
Strategy.
