Council will offer background, perspective on opportunities such as a state capital investment plan, public-private partnerships, climate change, and leadership on housing and water supply solutions
MPC
(Chicago) … Maintaining the region’s well being is
comparable to keeping a home in good repair: as soon as one renovation project
is completed, something else needs attention. Now that Springfield has
approved a long-term funding solution to the region’s transit operating crisis,
local, regional and state leaders turn their attention to the 2008 to-do list.
The Metropolitan Planning Council (MPC) will highlight key opportunities at a
media briefing on Tuesday, Feb. 12, noon to 1:30 p.m., 25 E. Washington St.,
Ste. 1600, Chicago.
MPC’s experts will discuss how the elections can call national attention to
the concerns of metropolitan Chicago’s residents and businesses. And they’ll
explain how new policies and practices will affect stories currently making
headlines, including the housing market’s turndown, global energy crisis, and
Chicago’s Olympics hopes. The briefing will provide background and forecasts on
critical regional issues expected to advance this year, including:
- a state capital investment plan for roads,
bridges and schools;
- innovative financing mechanisms for infrastructure
projects, such as public-private partnerships and congestion pricing;
- climate change; and
- leadership on housing and water supply solutions.
