Drinking Water 1-2-3 Academy
Academy 2023: Shared Solutions for a Universal Resource
Water is a universal resource, meaning that anyone and everyone who calls the Chicago region home deserves access to clean drinking water. But access, like so many things in our region, varies from community to community. The Academy curriculum for 2023 is all about information sharing, coming together to solve problems: of affordability, of lead service line replacement, of inequitable access. The goal is to build a community of efficacy around these important issues and make a difference.

Background:
Starting in 2019, MPC and its partners created a peer-to-peer learning exchange and technical assistance program—called the Drinking Water 1-2-3 Academy—to further assist communities in implementing best practices featured in our Drinking Water 1-2-3 guide.
The goals of the Academy include:
- Education and training on important water planning and management practices today
- Development of a peer network for cross-community learning and collaboration
- Targeted assistance and on-the-ground implementation of critical best practices in drinking water management
The Academy is comprised of series of events that feature education about key best practices and important issues for decision-makers and the communities they serve. The target audience for these events is elected officials, community leaders and top municipal staff—including municipal administrators, finance directors, planners, public works directors and water operators. Guest speakers include community leaders and water experts with an emphasis on peer-to-peer learning and example case studies from the region.
