Employer-assisted housing participants live closer to work

The University of Chicago employer-assisted housing (EAH) program provides downpayment assistance and access to homebuyer education to help employees live near work. From 2003 to 2009, 485 employees received credit counseling and homebuyer education from the nonprofit Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago, and 193 bought homes in nearby communities. The 193 homebuyers now overwhelmingly enjoy shorter commutes — by an average of more than 9 miles.

The University of Chicago is one of the 50 active employers throughout Illinois offering employerassisted housing benefits to their workers through the MPC-designed EAH program.
