Whistler Crossing, taken just before occupancy.
MPC congratulates the developers and architects of Whistler Crossing, the first project in Illinois to achieve LEED for Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND) criteria. The plan, one of 239 nationwide pilot projects under the LEED-ND rating criteria, is developed, owned and managed by Holsten Real Estate Development Corporation and designed by Farr and Associates.
On Feb. 9, this historic redevelopment became the first suburban award winner at the Chicago Neighborhood Development Awards, receiving the "Outstanding For-Profit Neighborhood Real Estate Project Award" as well as a second place Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Award for Architectural Excellence in Community Design.
Whistler Crossing, a mixed-use, mixed-income and historic rehabilitation development, revitalized the distressed condition of the Pacesetter property in south suburban Riverdale, Ill. MPC has been involved in the Pacesetter redevelopment process since 2003, when Riverdale brought in MPC and Urban Land Institute-Chicago to hold a Technical Assistance Panel. In addition to historic commitment to neighborhood revitalization and community development, MPC has long been an advocate for LEED-ND, and we are thrilled that the state of Illinois has a model neighborhood that will help shape inviting neighborhoods that encourage healthy living.
