Congratulations to the winners of the American Planning Association (APA)-Illinois Chapter's Annual Awards!
The chapter's tagline – "Making Great Communities Happen" – is perhaps the most tangible among many reasons why good planning is so important. Other good reasons include, but are not limited to, making smart use of taxpayer dollars through coordinated, right-sized, goal-oriented investments; attracting private investment through good public spending; serving underserved populations; and being good stewards of our natural resources. This is what motivates MPC staff, board members, volunteers and partner organizations to do the work they do, day in and day out.
If you missed out on the chance to nominate a great plan for the 2010 APA-Illinois Chapter awards – or if you think one of these plans, or a plan from northwestern Indiana, southeastern Wisconsin, or, heck, even Hawaii deserves even greater recognition – the national APA is now accepting nominations for the 2011 National Planning Awards.
