Metropolitan Planning Council elects Board of Governors members, officers

New members approved at December 2010 Board of Governors meeting

(Chicago) … The Metropolitan Planning Council (MPC), a Chicago-based nonprofit dedicated to shaping a more sustainable and prosperous greater metropolitan region, has elected 11 new members to its Board of Governors and new officers to its Executive Committee, including a new Chair, King Harris, chairman of Harris Holdings, Inc., and formerly a senior executive with Chicago Metropolis 2020.

The new MPC Board of Governors members and officers were endorsed by unanimous vote at MPC’s Dec. 9 Board of Governors meeting.

The Metropolitan Planning Council was founded in 1934 by a small, committed group of citizens who wanted to improve conditions in Chicago, especially in the area of housing. “Today, MPC is one of the region’s leading independent advocates for sustainable, equitable and competitive communities,” said MPC President MarySue Barrett. “Our incoming class of Board of Governors members and officers follow in the footsteps of MPC’s founders as dedicated leaders with the vision, expertise and tenacity needed to tackle the right issues at the right time.”

New MPC officers, all of whom will join the Executive Committee, are:

Chair: King Harris, Chairman, Harris Holdings, Inc.
Vice Chairs: Joseph A. Gregoire, Regional President-Illinois Banking, PNC Bank; and Jesse H. Ruiz, Principal, Drinker Biddle & Reath, LLP
Co-Vice Chair Development: James P. Stirling, Senior Advisor, UBS
Treasurer: Lisa Snow, Principal, Davis & Hosfield Consulting LLC

Incoming Chair Harris takes the helm from Lee Mitchell, managing partner, Thoma Bravo, Inc., who completed four years of service as Chair.

Ellen Carnahan, Principal, Machrie Enterprises, LLC
Pedro J. Cevallos-Candau, Ph.D., P.E, Executive Vice President, Primera Engineers, Ltd.
Gregory T. Mutz, CEO, Amli Residential Properties Trust
Paul E. Nowicki, Assistant VP, Government and Policy, BNSF Railway Company
Jorge Ramirez, President, Chicago Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO
Douglas P. Regan, President, The Wealth Management Group, Northern Trust

MPC’s Board of Governors also approved four new appointments to its Resource Board:

Chinwe Onyeagoro, CEO & Co-Founder, OH Community Partners
Robert G. Reiter, Jr., Secretary-Treasurer, Chicago Federation of Labor
Maria Hibbs, Executive Director, The Partnership for New Communities
