Mayor Jay Williams of Youngstown, Ohio, is guest of honor at first event in the Urban Exchange series
(Gary)…The Gary and Region Investment Project (GRIP), a multi-year effort to advance key transformative investments in Northwest Indiana’s urban core, will host its first GRIP Urban Exchange event featuring Mayor Jay Williams of Youngstown, Ohio, on Wednesday, April 27, from 8 to 9:30 a.m., at the U.S. Steel Yard.
Since 2009, through the Gary and Region Investment Project, or GRIP, the Metropolitan Planning Council (MPC) and The Times Media Company have helped build strong regional momentum for reinvesting in Gary and Northwest Indiana’s urban core communities to improve the entire region.
The GRIP Urban Exchange series, sponsored by NIPSCO, will bring leaders of other successful redevelopment efforts in cities across the country to Northwest Indiana throughout the coming year. The events, which are by invitation, are designed to allow local and national leaders to share best practices for revitalization, inspire local leadership, cultivate partnerships, and draw more national attention to Gary and Northwest Indiana. To kick off the series, Youngstown Mayor Williams, who has increasingly been recognized as a national leader in rethinking the way we invest in our urban communities, will share his region’s challenges and successes and apply lessons learned to Northwest Indiana. He and Gary Mayor Rudy Clay will meet after the event to exchange ideas.
