Chicago employers unlock gridlock, achieve sustainability goals, support neighborhood recovery through Commute Options, Employer-Assisted Housing

The average American spends 50 minutes a day traveling to and from work—and most of us would like our commutes to be shorter, cheaper and less stressful. Several Chicago employers are helping ease this daily burden for employees while bolstering their corporate sustainability goals.

  • Labelmaster, located on Chicago’s northwest side, has implemented new Commute Options, including a bicycling incentive and emergency ride home, and continues to offer an Employer-Assisted Housing benefit for qualified employees who purchase a home.
  • Loyola University Chicago offers downpayment assistance and access to counseling to help employees buy homes close to campus or within ½-mile of the Chicago Transit Authority's Red El line.
  • BMO Harris Bank provides $2,500 to help employees buy homes, supporting housing recovery and foreclosure response.

Other Chicago employers participating in Commute Options and/or Employer-Assisted Housing include:

  • Chase
  • Chicago Public Schools
  • City Colleges of Chicago
  • Goose Island Beer Company
  • Loyola University Chicago
  • MacArthur Foundation
  • Rush University Medical Center
  • Saint Anthony Hospital
  • Sinai Health Systems
  • University of Chicago
  • University of Chicago Medical Center
  • Webb deVlam

That's a great commute data resource. Thanks. One comment on data bias to it: comparing time to commute individually and collectively, say by bus or carpool or ride-share, doesn't capture the material difference in commute time utility between the two -- driving in versus being chauffeured in to work.
