In what has been dubbed the “age of cities” where does the real power for change lie?
On April 23, MPC along with its partner The Chicago Council on Global Affairs welcomed public policy experts Bruce Katz and Jeremy Nowak to talk about their new book, The New Localism: How Cities Can Thrive in the Age of Populism.
Moderated by Julianna Kerr, the Council’s Director of Global Cities and Immigration, Katz and Nowak explored how cities have unleashed their dominance in driving innovation and growth on the world stage. This new concentration of power in urban centers, or “new localism,” has the potential to solve many of the challenges facing modern societies: economic growth, social inclusion, the challenge of diversity, and environmental sustainability.
