The Area, the latest documentary feature from Scrappers Film Group, is premiering in Chicago with a two-week run at the Gene Siskel Film Center of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

This searing documentary chronicles the five-year odyssey of a South Side Chicago neighborhood, where more than 400 African-American families are being displaced by a multi-billion-dollar freight company. The film follows homeowner-turned-activist Deborah Payne, who vows to be “the last house standing,” and the Row Row Boys, teen friends who must start a new lives across gang lines.

Join MPC for an after-screening conversation with WBEZ's Alden Loury, MPC Vice President Marisa Novara and Deborah Payne.
