The Gary and Region Investment Project (GRIP), a multi-year effort to advance key transformative investments in Northwest Indiana’s urban core, invites you to attend the second GRIP Urban Exchange.

As the urban core of Northwest Indiana continues on the path to stabilization and recovery, communities must grapple with how best to engage, partner and support the growth of business. The pursuit of “Eds and Meds,” higher education and medical facilities, has often been credited with Pittsburgh’s revitalization. A third important sector is technology; the Pittsburgh Technology Center has been driving growth in the city for over 25 years.  At this next Urban Exchange, Ms. Russo will discuss the challenges and successes related to attracting the creative class to Pittsburgh, her partnerships with municipalities on a variety of policy issues to support the technology industry, and the private sector’s role in community revitalization.

We hope you’ll join us on November 30th. To reserve your seat, if you haven’t already done so, please RSVP to Angie Leyva at aleyva@metroplanning.org or (312) 863-6017.

About the GRIP Urban Exchange series
Designed to share best practices across the country, inspire leadership, and draw more national attention to Northwest Indiana, the GRIP Urban Exchange series brings representatives leading successful redevelopment efforts in other parts of the country to Northwest Indiana. The purpose of these exchanges is to highlight the challenges and rewards associated with taking a targeted, regional approach to revitalization. Formerly industrialized cities such as Youngstown, Ohio; Flint, Mich.; Duluth, Minn.; and Pittsburg, Pa., are showing promising results – and receiving national accolades and support – by taking this kind of approach. GRIP Urban Exchanges will help Northwest Indiana learn from best practices, as well as position the region to attract national attention.

The Urban Exchange series is sponsored by NIPSCO, in partnership with The Times Media Company.
