Dozens of communities throughout our metropolitan Chicago region have been planning their futures through CMAP's Local Technical Assistance (LTA) program, which began in March 2011.  The LTA program is currently helping 70 local governments, nonprofits, and intergovernmental organizations to address local issues at the intersection of transportation, land use, and housing, including the natural environment, economic growth, and community development.  Join us on May 24 for an exciting Ideas Exchange event to learn how you can build on successes of others who are working with CMAP and partner organizations to implement GO TO 2040 and enhance their communities' livability, economic prosperity, and quality of life.  Please bookmark this page and watch for more details.

Attendees will be among the first to learn of other opportunities such as the joint CMAP and Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) Community Planning program.  Applications for the Community Planning program, as well as the new LTA program Call for Projects, will be available beginning on May 9.  At the event, The Chicago Community Trust will announce grantees of its Community-Based Sustainable Development program, which was initiated this year to advance the implementation of GO TO 2040.

This event is targeted to elected officials, municipal planners and other staff, community-based organizations, and other nonprofit and civic organizations.  Panel discussions will highlight local examples of best practices in site planning, sustainability planning, planning for demographic change, and more from communities across the region – including satellite cities, high-growth areas, stable suburban communities, and neighborhoods within Chicago.

While interacting with these community-based visionaries, you will have the chance to discuss the soon-to-be-released Call for Projects from the LTA program. CMAP's first LTA Call for Projects in 2011 prompted over 220 proposals from more than 130 municipalities, counties, interjurisdictional groups, and nongovernmental organizations.  This year may be even more competitive, and priority will be given to applicants that collaborate with their neighbors or with other partner organizations.  You can give your community's 2012 proposal a significant advantage by attending the May 24 event.

The LTA program is funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Sustainable Communities Initiative.
