National panel will share examples of public-private partnerships supporting efforts to create sustainable communities and economic competitiveness.
Access to a range of housing options is a core component of sustainable communities and economic competitiveness. Across the nation, employers are forging vital partnerships with state and local governments to create viable housing solutions. At this MPC Roundtable, we will hear about local workforce housing successes, and explore opportunities to shape federal investments to promote more livable communities.
The panel will feature:
Dorothy Shaw, director, state & local affairs, Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding. Based in Pascagoula, Miss., Ms. Shaw will share her company’s successful experience with its employer-assisted housing program, demonstrating how this versatile strategy is serving employees and advancing community goals in both high-cost New York and Katrina-ravaged Mississippi.
Terry Peterson, appointed chairman of the board, Chicago Transit Authority, and vice president of government affairs, Rush University Medical Center. Mr. Peterson will discuss the hospital’s support for workforce housing and “live near work” solutions, including its role in Reconnecting Neighborhoods.
Janice Morrissy, director of housing initiatives, South Suburban Housing Collaborative. Ms. Morrissy will describe the strategic approach more than 20 south suburban municipalities have taken to jointly address the challenge of foreclosures in their communities, including the important role of private sector partners.
Tom Morsch, managing director, Scott Balice Strategies, and Lake Forest City Council member. Mr. Morsch will provide insight on a new workforce housing development in his north suburban community and other promising opportunities to support sustainable communities on the North Shore.
