A unique, invitation-only workshop for Chicago region municipal leaders to work one-on-one with industry experts and potential investors to explore new financing tools to deliver infrastructure projects. Co-hosted by the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus and Metropolitan Planning Council
Do you need to build a municipal building? Water and sewer infrastructure? Parking structure?
Your community is never short on capital projects—but what about the money to make them happen?
You are invited to this workshop to meet with finance experts and potential investors to specifically consider your ideas for infrastructure improvements.
Overview: As municipalities struggle with ever-tightening budgets, governments have begun to tap innovative financing tools to supplement traditional funding sources to build infrastructure. New private infrastructure funds and financing mechanisms have launched to help municipalities build projects such as public buildings, libraries, fire and police stations, parking structures, and water and sewer infrastructure.
This workshop will be specifically tailored for municipal leaders based on projects they propose. The workshop will have two parts:
Finance and development experts will begin by introducing how practical, innovative financing tools and strategies such as value capture, public-private partnerships, availability payments, revolving loan funds, conduit financing, or other access to capital could be applied to finance specific transportation and other public infrastructure, industrial services, and public buildings projects in your municipality.
Selected participants will then work-one-on-one with these experts and investors to advance an implementation plan using a real-life project needed in their community. Details about the proposed project and financing considerations provided in advance will allow productive meetings between municipal officials and investors.
Tell us about your project! Local projects best suited to this kind of financing include public buildings, transportation and water infrastructure projects, and parking garages. If you have a specific project that needs financing, please contact Contact Chrissy Mancini Nichols, MPC Director, 312 863 6042 or cmancini@metroplanning.org
Even if you are in the preliminary stage of planning a project, we still invite you to attend the workshop to benefit from peer learnings. More details will be provided to registrants submitting project ideas.
