Program begins at 5:30
Deborah Rutter
The Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association’s outgoing president, Deborah Rutter, has taken an expansive approach to building on the extraordinary artistry of the orchestra by using and promoting the power of music to create connections, build communities, and transform lives. Whether by bringing classical music to young women who are incarcerated at the Illinois Youth Center in Warrenville, Ill., or by supporting musicians who initiate programs to connect the residents of Chicago’s Austin community with their suburban neighbors in Oak Park, under Rutter’s leadership the CSO has repeatedly asked and answered the question: How can music help create community connections?
Mark Caro
Join us for a provocative conversation between Chicago Tribune entertainment writer Mark Caro and Rutter, as she prepares to take on the role of President of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Rutter will discuss the CSO’s many civic engagements, including its Citizen Musician Initiative, its support of the CPS Arts Education Plan, and its involvement in the City of Chicago’s first Cultural Plan in 30 years. She also will share her hopes for how more cultural institutions across our region can leverage the power of the arts in support of vibrant neighborhoods.
Beer, wine and hors d'œuvre will be served.
