MPC's MarySue Barrett will moderate this panel.

The updated National Climate Assessment (NCA), released on April 28, 2014, affirms that the United States is warming. The report warns that, at the current rate of global carbon emissions, climate change in the 21st Century will create additional stresses on people and living environments, and place growing demands on our ability to anticipate, prepare and respond.

In light of current findings, this panel discussion will explore what actions the business and policy communities, including urban centers like Chicago, should consider to mitigate against and adapt to emerging climate driven realities.

Panelists are:

  • Dr. Don Wuebbles, National Climate Assessment Convening Lead Author and University of Illinois Harry E. Preble Professor of Atmospheric Science
  • Tom Skilling, WGN TV Meteorologist
  • Karen Weigert, City of Chicago Chief Sustainability Officer
  • Mary Gade, President of Gade Environmental Group, LLC, and former Region V Administrator for the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency.

MarySue Barrett, president of the Metropolitan Planning Council, will moderate the discussion.
