MPC Director Josh Ellis will be speaking at the Friends of the Forest Preserves' fall program series—Eating the Earth.
This installment of the program series will focus on water sources of the south suburban areas of Northeastern Illinois. On behalf of the Calumet Stormwater Collaborative, Ellis will talk about how life in the south suburbs of Chicago is increasingly being shaped by water. The Calumet Stormwater Collaborative, facilitated by the Metropolitan Planning Council, is an intergovernmental, multi-stakeholder group working to collectively address stormwater and urban flooding issues within the Calumet region.
Since April 2014, the Collaborative has been working toward systemic stormwater management solutions that foster awareness of the many ongoing stormwater management initiatives in the region, forge a shared understanding of terms, establish common goals and identify opportunities to align existing and new projects toward those goals. The Collaborative is one of the priority projects of the Millennium Reserve.
Other topics will range from flooding in Midlothian to pollution in the Cal-Sag, falling water levels in Lake Michigan to farm runoff. Come join the City of Blue Island, Friends of the Forest Preserves and others to learn about the area’s waterways!
