In partnership with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning and the Federal Highway Administration, the Metropolitan Planning Council will host a workshop, “Contemporary Tools and Approaches for Parking Pricing and Management," to present strategies the City of Chicago can take to implement innovative parking policies and generate revenue within the Chicago Parking Meter concession and exchange ideas with local and national leaders.

The workshop will feature national experts –including representatives from SFpark, where parking meter rates vary by block and time of day to ensure availability, and King County’s (Seattle’s) Right Size Parking tool, which guides policymakers and developers by providing area and parcel parking utilization rates reflective of development and site characteristics, as well as transit/bicycle access and parking prices--who will join local leaders to share insights and lessons learned.

MPC will present our analysis of the Chicago parking meter concession renegotiation and strategies Aldermen and the City of Chicago can take to implement innovative parking policies that reduce congestion as well as generate revenue.

Topics include:

  • How the City of Chicago can implement innovative parking policies within the Chicago parking meter concession
  • Potential to general revenue within the Chicago parking meter concession
  • Analysis of parking demand and supply in Wicker Park Bucktown and strategies to improve congestion
  • Parking pricing policy
  • Parking payment technologies
  • Data collection and system management strategies
  • Parking management issues facing cities
  • Innovative strategies to reduce parking demand and address the needs of preferred users
  • Tools for developing a local parking pricing and management action plan
