Salt makes roads safer to drive on in the winter, but it also ends up in our rivers.
Chicago Southland Green Drinks is back! Come connect with the sustainability community over a drink and engaging conversation.
Start the new year off right with SALT—Roads, Rain, Residuals and Our Rivers, which will examine the impacts of road salt (and chlorides more generally) on our waterways, key species and government budgets. As Cook County embarks on a process to reduce chloride levels in its rivers, learn from success in DuPage County, and what you can do at home, at work and in your community.
Speakers:
- Stephen McCracken, Director of Watershed Protection for the Conservation Foundation
- Tony Quintanilla, Asst. Dir. of Maintenance and Operations at MWRD
- Josh Ellis (moderator), Director at the Metropolitan Planning Council
The event is free, but please register here. Donations are accepted at the door in order to cover the cost of food for the event.
