The condition of Illinois' roads, bridges and transit systems is falling further and further behind. We need to invest $43 billion over 10 years to bring the system back to good working order.
TMA of Lake Cook 2016 Annual Meeting
Illinois’ roads, bridges and transit systems are in a state of significant disrepair. The Metropolitan Planning Council (MPC) estimates that we need $43 billion over the next ten years to fix this problem.
Jim Reilly, former Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) chairman and former McPier chief executive officer, will discuss the impact of kicking the capital needs can down the road on people and our economy, and discuss a funding proposal to pay for improved transportation infrastructure.
John Fortmann, Ill. Dept. of Transportation deputy director, Region 1, will talk about his agency’s challenges of balancing limited funds with growing transportation needs for our regions’ highway and bridges.
Finally, Leanne Redden, RTA’s executive director, will speak about the impact of limited transit funding and its effect on RTA’ s service boards, Pace, Metra and CTA.
The important takeaway is that the Illinois transportation capital crisis is real; the impacts on households, communities and businesses are significant; and the time to move forward with a funding plan is now.
Registration and networking begin at 8 a.m. The meeting will run from 9 to 11 a.m. RSVP to tim_grzesiakowski@baxter.com by Thursday, May 19, 2016.
The TMA also will provide their 2015 Annual Report and announce their 2016-2017 Board of Directors/Officers at this Meeting.
