As Illinois’ budget impasse and local funding crises loom large, the Transform Illinois coalition is promoting efficiency in local government.

With some 7,000 units of local government in Illinois—or 54 for every 100,000 citizens—the group argues that while many deliver integral services, the time is right to explore opportunities for consolidation, streamlining and collaboration across local government boundaries.

As president of the Metropolitan Planning Council, MarySue Barrett is one of Transform Illinois' leaders and has a long history of promoting sound solutions for regional growth. Join Chicago Style and MarySue Barrett on Wednesday, May 18 from 7 to 8 p.m. to discuss Transform Illinois’ work in Chicagoland, current fiscal issues and the future of local government in Illinois.

Register for this free event through the University of Chicago Institute of Politics.
