A Ross Barney Architects design rendering of a vision for riverfront development along South Ashland Ave.

Archeworks Agendas 01 is a new platform for sharing ideas and projects that inspire change in Chicago and beyond. The event will showcase the work of emerging leaders, change-makers and critical thinkers who are challenging convention, approaching dilemmas and defining new tools and methods.

For 10 minutes this evening, staff from Ross Barney Architects and the Metropolitan Planning Council will highlight Great Rivers Chicago.

Great Rivers Chicago is an initiative launched in 2015 to unlock the potential of the Chicago, Calumet and Des Plaines rivers and riverfronts—three of our city’s most undervalued natural assets. MPC and partners have scoured past riverfront plans and reports, held nearly 100 outreach meetings and heard from more than 5,500 people about their hopes for our rivers. Uniquely broad and comprehensive outreach led to a soon-to-be-announced vision and action agenda, “Our Great Rivers,” that sets forth recommendations for a more inviting, productive and living river system in Chicago.

This short presentation will summarize the vision and ongoing work to inspire development and conservation along the 150 miles of riverbanks lining Chicago's rivers. We invite participants to join us in designing the future of these vital natural, social and economic assets in our region.

Other speakers will include:

  • Vaidotas Vaiciulis (REX New York) on the Temple of All Religions
  • Pete Landon and Tyler Brown (Landon Bone Baker Architects) on Social Mix
  • Stewart Hicks and Allison Newmeyer (Design With Company) on Learning from the Midwest; and
  • Nicolette Stosur-Bassette and Karen MacKay )ReuseCHI and Archeworks 2016 Alumni) on Waste Activism

The event will culminate with a Q&A with all speakers and a reception and networking opportunity.
