Register Today

Please join the Metropolitan Planning Council (MPC) in celebrating the Friends of the Cal-Sag Trail and the Cal-Sag Trail Coalition who were honored with the 2017 Burnham Award for Excellence in Planning for their plan and implementation of the Cal-Sag Trail.

On January 25 from 5-7 pm at Blue Island Beer Company, we’ll hear from the visionaries who turned a wishful line on a map into 12.5 miles of beautiful, paved, multi-use trailand their plans for opening the last 13 miles in the coming years. Leveraging the power of public and private partnerships, the trail has seen over 80,000 users in the last year, and is the second highest used trail in Illinois, following the Lakefront Trail in Chicago.

Since 2004, Friends of the Cal-Sag Trail and the Cal-Sag Trail Coalition have worked with communities in the Chicago Southland region to plan and implement the Cal-Sag Trail. Once complete, the trail will be home to 26 miles of multi-purpose trail and connect more than 185,000 people in 14 communities. Cal-Sag riders and walkers are not only connected to regional trails, transit systems, retail areas, parks and nature centers, but they are also connected to the area’s rich history and legacies of Big Steel, immigrant communities and the Underground Railroad.
