The COVID-19 pandemic is causing everyone to stop, step back and reflect on the trends we have been experiencing. Now is a time for planners to think about how we can emerge from this crisis stronger and on a more sustainable path.
Join us for this event and two related events on May 5th and May 19th about how to ensure Illinois’ water resilience, now and post-COVID-19.
During this pandemic, we’ve all been asked to stay home—and for too many Americans, including thousands of Illinois residents, that has meant going without running water. Water shutoffs are a regular occurrence when households cannot pay their water bills. Though some cities, including Chicago, have issued moratoria on shutoffs, many have not. During this pandemic, many communities have been racing to turn water back on for households whose water was previously cut off—and policy makers have been discussing how to avoid these inequities in the future.
Join Metropolitan Planning Council, Natural Resources Defense Council, and Elevate Energy for a discussion about water rate affordability in Illinois, the challenges associated with water shutoffs and reconnections, what’s happening in Illinois and neighboring states, and how to avoid these issues altogether in the future.
Registration is required. Event link will be included in your registration confirmation, please note you must be logged into your Eventbrite account to access link.
