A vegetated curb extension helps capture stormwater runoff before it hits the sewer.
REGISTRATION FOR THIS WORKSHOP IS CLOSED DUE TO OVERWHELMING DEMAND. A similar workshop will be held on Friday, October 8, in East Hazel Crest (register for that workshop here).
In the last few months, communities throughout northeastern Illinois have seen devastating rainfalls and damaging floods. On September 16, the Ill. Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) formally launched the Illinois Green Infrastructure Grant Program for Stormwater Management (IGIG) and made the Request for Proposals available online. The grant program will advance the use of innovative green infrastructure solutions for stormwater management.
The Metropolitan Planning Council is hosting three public workshops for prospective applicants and other interested parties to learn more about this exciting new program. IEPA staff will be on hand to explain the details of the grant program. Attendees will then have the opportunity to network and brainstorm about projects with design and engineering firms, non-profit groups, and other experts in the field of green infrastructure.
The October 1 workshop, in partnership with the City of Aurora, will culminate with a walking tour to see several recently completed projects that are having a demonstrable impact on the city’s stormwater management. City officials and staff will be available to answer questions.
Registration capped at 200 for this workshop. Coffee available at 9:00, workshop to begin promptly at 9:30. Post-workshop walking tour begins at approximately 11:15.
This workshop is free. Prospective applicants include units of government, watershed planning groups, non-profit organizations, businesses, individuals and other entities eligible to receive state funds. You are welcome to attend both workshops, but the content will be comparable. Seating is limited, so you must register.
Additional workshops will be held on Wednesday, September 29, in Chicago (registration closed), and October 8 in south suburban East Hazel Crest. Register for that workshop here.
