Flooded streets, submerged basements, swamped sewers—these are the images that come to mind when thinking about our region’s stormwater challenges. Metropolitan Chicago is a generally wet, watery region, and the latest climate models predict an even wetter future. Our flooding issues are complex and will only be solved by collaborative actions led by multiple agencies working together to achieve cross-jurisdictional goals. Thankfully, many organizations across the region are developing ways to ease the burden and prepare our communities for the future.

Join us for this roundtable to learn about the latest approaches to identifying and solving our region’s urban flooding. The event will feature the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago’s (MWRD) work with municipalities to reduce the negative impacts of flooding; Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning’s (CMAP) new stormwater local technical assistance program; and Center for Neighborhood Technology’s (CNT) RainReady program and its grassroots approach to helping communities manage flooding.

The roundtable also will highlight two new resources MPC is releasing to assist the region and municipalities in tackling our urban flooding woes: a vision for a regional stormwater modeling system and research into effective ways to generate revenue for stormwater management.
