Many Chicago region assets spark fondness: Lake Michigan, architecture, forest preserves, and industry. But ports?
Ports in cities around the world are reimagining how public access and sustainability can coexist within an industrial, working port. At their best, ports can both drive regional economies and offer social and environmental amenities.
The Illinois International Port District (IIPD) is currently creating a master plan to consider new approaches for economic development and the role of community in shaping the process. Join MPC and event partners, the Alliance for the Great Lakes, the Calumet Collaborative and the Southeast Environmental Task Force, for a March 26 Roundtable to hear about the design and planning principles that other cities across the country have used in recreating their Port Districts and as well as what Chicago is exploring. Adam Lubinsky from WXY, an architecture and urban design firm, will moderate.
This lively discussion will include:

- Olga Bautista, Alliance for the Great Lakes
- Clayton Harris, Illinois International Port District
- Linda Sternheimer, Port of Cleveland

Doors open at 5:30 pm and the program will begin at 6:00 pm. Parking is available. The cost of the event is $10 for general attendance. There is no cost for community residents from the following zip codes: 60617, 60633, 60628 and 60827, as well as students with valid ID.
