The way we live in cities is rapidly changing as Americans choose to drive less and are better connected to information through handheld mobility platforms. The rise of start-ups and technological shifts have opened up a wide range of new transportation options leading to an urban transformation. A growing number of large cities have begun to embrace creative projects that cater to the lifestyle choices of a growing number of urban dwellers. However, the pace at which city government and processes change can often seem glacial.

In Start-Up City, author and former Chicago Transportation Commissioner Gabe Klein asks how we can close the gap between the energized, aggressive world of start-ups and the complex public bureaucracies struggling to change beyond a geologic time scale. He demonstrates how to affect big, directional change in cities—and how to do it fast!

Join the Metropolitan Planning Council and Gabe Klein for an evening that will inspire “public entrepreneurship"—a start-up energy within the public sector to achieve real, meaningful projects quickly—and explore how private-sector innovators can align their profit motives with cities by prioritizing working for the greater good.

Island Press will provide every attendee with a free copy of Start-Up City, distributed by City Lit Books.

The cost of the event is $15 and includes light refreshments and a copy of Start-Up City. Seating is limited, so please register in advance.
