“Dan Egan’s deeply researched and sharply written The Death and Life of The Great Lakes . . . is bursting with life (and yes, death).” –New York Times Book Review

The Great Lakes—Erie, Huron, Michigan, Ontario and Superiorhold 20 percent of the world’s supply of surface fresh water and provide sustenance, work, and recreation for tens of millions of Americans and Canadians. But they are under threat as never before, and their problems are spreading across the continent.

The Death and Life of the Great Lakes is prize-winning reporter Dan Egan’s compulsively readable portrait of a human and ecological catastrophe happening right before our eyes, blending the epic story of the lakes with an examination of the perils they face and the ways we can restore and preserve them for generations to come.

Dan is a reporter at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and a senior water policy fellow at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's School of Freshwater Sciences. He has twice been a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. He will be in conversation with WBEZ’s Monica Eng who reports on food, health and ethnic culture in Chicago and beyond.

Join MPC, the Alliance for the Great Lakes, Dan Egan, and Monica Eng for a discussion on the science, history and reporting on the past, present, and imperiled future of the Great Lakes.

Copies of The Death and Life of the Great Lakes will be available for purchase at the event.

Doors open at 5 p.m. The program will begin at 5:30 p.m., with time to mingle before and after. $15 registration includes snacks, wine and beer (thanks to our sponsor Bell's Brewery). Space is limited, so please register in advance.
