Earlier this month, Victory Gardens Theater debuted a new play by award-winning local playwright Ike Holter. His ambitious new work, Rightlynd, (the name of Chicago’s fictitious 51st ward), explores the policy and political issues of gentrification and displacement. Centered around the struggle of one woman’s fight to stop a redevelopment project that would gentrify the neighborhood and change Rightlynd forever, the play is fiction, but the story is rooted in reality.
Join MPC for a different kind of conversation about housing, racial equity and the future of Chicago’s neighborhoods. Rightlynd Ensemble members will perform a piece from the show and Playwright Ike Holter and Director Lisa Portes will join Angela Xu, a Chicago-based artist for a lively dialogue about the play, the issues featured and the role that arts can play in shaping critical conversations.
Rightlynd cast members include: Jerome Beck, Anish Jethmalani, Eddie Martinez, and Monica Orozco
Doors open at 5 p.m. The program will begin at 5:30 p.m., with time to mingle before and after. The cost of the event is $15, which includes snacks, wine, and beer. Space is limited, so please register in advance.
