Polar vortex in the winter. Extreme heatwaves in the summer. Record rainfalls bring record levels of flooding. Welcome to extreme weather under a changing climate in the Midwest. But does it have to be this way?

Globally, the demand for fossil fuels is still strong, even as the severe impacts of climate change grow clearer. Amory Lovins, chairman emeritus, cofounder and chief scientist of the Rocky Mountain Institute, is working to change our energy future and accelerate the shift from fossil fuels to renewables and more energy efficiency. He argues that not only is it environmentally necessary, but it is cost effective and profitable. Author of the acclaimed book, Reinventing Fire, Lovins maps pathways for running a 158%-bigger U.S. economy in 2050 needing no oil, no coal, and no nuclear energy.

Join MPC in welcoming Lovins to Chicago to discuss his approach in using market-based clean energy solutions to fight against climate change and the impact that could have on Chicago and its regional economy. Lovins is among the world's leading experts on energy and has advised the energy and other industries for four decades as well as the U.S. Departments of Energy and Defense. He will be joined in conversation with Lindy Wordlaw, AICP, Senior Manager of Public Sector Programs at Elevate Energy.

Doors open at 5 p.m. The program will begin at 5:30 p.m., with time to mingle before and after. The cost of the event is $15 for members of the general public and $12 for MPC Donors. Admission includes snacks, wine and beer. Space is limited, so please register in advance.
