Climate change threatens every aspect of our wellbeing – from our public health, infrastructure and natural resources, to our agriculture, transportation, and economy – the impacts of changing climate are experienced by all communities. No single community can solve these issues on its own and not all communities face the same level of challenge. Action to mitigate the root causes of climate change through emissions reductions and to adapt to the effects of climate change must be taken in this decisive decade at both a scale and speed that can only be accomplished through local, regional, and international collaboration.

Join us July 13 as the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus and The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration launch one of the first regional climate plans in the United States: the 2021 Climate Action Plan for the Chicago Region (read the Plan here). Created to call municipal leaders to action and developed with support from the Global Covenant of Mayors and the European Commission, this report documents current conditions, sets ambitious targets, and provides municipal strategies to ensure successful climate action. From decarbonizing energy and transportation to optimizing building energy and from reducing vehicle miles traveled to sustainably managing water and waste, the Plan addresses interrelated fields that influence our climate trends. Demonstrating the important intersections between global and local, the Plan emphasizes local leadership as integral in accelerating sustainable and equitable climate success. This event will feature climate champions at the Federal, regional, and local levels discuss the importance of regional plans, highlight the necessity of collaboration, and inspire implementation of the Chicago region’s first Climate Action Plan. Registration is free but required.
