Climate change is expected to cause Chicago’s weather patterns to become hotter and more unpredictable, causing disruption in almost every aspect of a Chicagoan’s life. Residents, businesses, and communities must become more resilient and adaptable to thrive in the face of extreme weather. Neighborhood resilience includes everything from local parks and community gardens to the landscaping and green building technologies used in new construction projects. Climate efforts should seek wide-ranging clean energy solutions that include power companies, public transit systems, vehicle manufacturers, and other major environmental influencers. By engaging on these issues together, we can mitigate negative impacts and foster policies that prepare for a more sustainable future.

Join the Chicago Council on Global Affairs as we explore international models that advance the goal of environment, climate and energy resiliency. You will hear from global voices on successful international initiatives and from City of Chicago leaders on the relevant policies included in We Will Chicago draft framework plan. These policies and your input can help lead to more livable and vibrant communities.

Speakers include:

  • Thien-Khoi Do (moderator)
Director of Market Development & Innovation: Asset & Sustainability Performance Portfolio, UL
  • Councillor Kye Dudd
Cabinet Member for Climate, Ecology, Waste and Energy, City of Bristol, United Kingdom
  • Mauricio Rodas
Former Mayor of the Metropolitan District of Quito
Distinguished Fellow, Global Cities, Chicago Council on Global Affairs
  • Angela Tovar
Chief Sustainability Officer, City of Chicago

This event is part of a seven-part series on We Will Chicago, hosted by the Metropolitan Planning Council, Chicago Council on Global Affairs, and the City of Chicago. Each event in the series will feature a panel presentation of international and local city experts, along with interactive polling to provide feedback and input on the plan’s draft policies. This is the first citywide plan in more than fifty years - don’t miss your chance to engage with fellow Chicagoans on strategies and ideas to improve the city’s future!
