In March 2021, MPC and the Great Lakes ADA Center of UIC launched a report on the state of ADA transition planning in the Chicago region. Despite over 30 years of federal requirements to identify and remove barriers to mobility access on publicly-owned streets, the report demonstrated that only 11% of the region’s municipalities had recent ADA transition plans.

Since the report launched, exciting new resources are being set up to help make our communities safer, more accessible, and better connected.  Audience members will hear how agencies in the region are reshaping themselves to address ADA needs, how communities are rethinking and reprioritizing mobility and accessibility, and how local experts recommend taking action to make your community's sidewalks, crosswalks, and transit stations universally accessible. Learn more by joining us on October 13 from Noon to 1 p.m. for this final event in the five-part series titled, Taking Climate Action by Prioritizing Walking, Biking, and Transit.

Speakers include:

  • Yochai Eisenberg, UIC, Great Lakes ADA Center
  • S. Khurshid Hoda, Director of Engineering Programs and Services, Orland Park
  • Linda Mastandrea, Director, Regional ADA Planning and Local Safety, Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP)
  • Audrey Wennink, Director of Transportation, Metropolitan Planning Council (moderator)
