This summer, Metropolitan Planning Council (MPC) and Equiticity partnered with local community organizations to co-create three free intimate walking tours in Little Village, North Lawndale, and Bronzeville/Washington Park. Each tour featured 5-7 destinations that highlighted key neighborhood catalysts and assets. Tour routes were designed to balance a diversity of destinations, general walkability, and transit connectivity. Following the Equiticity model of community mobility rituals, these tours provided the opportunity for an intimate gathering for community members and visitors to connect through movement.
On October 18 from Noon to 1 p.m. (CT), join Metropolitan Planning Council (MPC) and Equiticity for a virtual recap event of the guided walking tours to learn about neighborhoods through a positive narrative of community building. The event will include professional video highlights of each of the tours, along with a panel discussion with the community partners that led the tours. Participants will hear directly from speakers from Erie Neighborhood House, The North Lawndale Employment Network, and Urban Juncture about the spaces, places, and projects that are reshaping their neighborhoods. Join us to virtually explore some amazing neighborhood assets in Chicago, including urban farms and gardens, the Nichols Tower, and the Forum!
