The Facebook Fan page is the first of several new communications platforms MPC will be introducing in the coming months. Stay tuned for news about our new Web site, coming this summer.
Sure, you’ve always been a fan of Metropolitan Planning Council (MPC).
But now, you can be a Fan.
On April 20, MPC took the social media plunge by publishing a Fan page on Facebook. The popular site is helping expand our reach to share news, promote events, and engage new and old friends in discussions about our work. If you have a Facebook page, we invite you to become a Fan. In addition to showing your support for sustainable, equitable and competitive development in Chicagoland, you’ll receive regular MPC updates via Facebook, including daily links to news reports about and related to MPC’s work. And, you’ll have the opportunity to talk with MPC staff and fellow Fans about important issues shaping our region, such as public transportation funding, water supply planning, and workforce housing.
If you don’t have a Facebook page, but have been thinking about joining, here are a few statistics that may surprise you:
Facebook has more than 200 million active users, and more than 3.5 billion minutes are spent on Facebook each day (worldwide).
Facebook is used increasingly to share news and information. More than 1 billion pieces of content (web links, news stories, blog posts, notes, photos, etc.) are shared each week.
While Facebook first became popular among college students, today more than two-thirds of Facebook users are not in college.
The fastest growing demographic is 35 years old and older.
