Bring Workers Home: a series of national workforce housing forums

Through employer-assisted housing initiatives, employers around the country have discovered the advantage of having their workers living in quality, stable homes near jobs and transportation. Employer-assisted housing is a bottom-line benefit that promotes a stable workforce and strong communities. In addition to leveraging public-private partnerships in support of workforce housing, employer-assisted housing initiatives engage employers as advocates for livable communities.

A series of Bring Workers Home regional forums will provide the opportunity to hear

  • How employees’ housing and transportation challenges (including high costs, lengthy commutes, and foreclosures) affect businesses’ bottom line.
  • About innovative solutions employers are implementing to address these challenges.
  • Of opportunities for new partnerships with local communities, businesses, and other stakeholders.
  • What new federal programs are encouraging these innovative partnerships.

The Bring Workers Home forums are designed for a wide range of attendees, including employers and human resource professionals, REALTORS®, city planners, housing and community development leaders, local elected and appointed officials, state housing finance agency representatives, and others.

National Housing Conference, National Association of REALTORS®, Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, International Economic Development Council, and MPC are working together to plan this series of regional forums on workforce housing solutions.

These forums will take place throughout 2010 in the following locations: Atlanta, GA; Minneapolis, MN; Austin, TX; and Honolulu, HI. Registration is now available for all four regional forums.

In 2009, regional employer-assisted housing forums were held in Philadelphia and Boise. The presentations are available.

In 2008, a national employer-assisted housing forum was held in Chicago.
