Redefining the Drive: MPC President MarySue Barrett talks North Lake Shore Drive on Chicago Tonight

One possible scenario for North Lake Shore Drive includes transit lanes and an improved lakefront trail.

The Chicago Dept. of Transportation and the Ill. Dept. of Transportation are studying possible changes to the north portion of Lake Shore Drive, between Grand Avenue and Hollywood Avenue. A coalition of 15 organizations, including Metropolitan Planning Council (MPC), has formed to promote bold changes that serve each group that uses the Drive—drivers, bicyclists, pedestrians and transit-users. In this Chicago Tonight video, MPC President MarySue Barrett, Chicago Dept. of Transportation Deputy Commissioner Luann Hamilton and Active Transportation Alliance Executive Director Ron Burke discuss the implications of the project, dubbed "Redefine the Drive."

For anyone interested in participating, there will be public meetings on Aug. 6, 7 and 8.

The full coalition platform outlining proposed changes and reasoning for each, is available here.
