Chicagoans invited to provide input on draft vision and action agenda for Chicago's three rivers at public meetings April 14 and 21, May 4 and 11
Vision will help drive new investment in parks, job opportunities, housing and transportation along the Chicago, Calumet and Des Plaines rivers
(Chicago) … Great Rivers Chicago, an initiative of the City of Chicago in partnership with the Metropolitan Planning Council, Friends of the Chicago River and others, is getting ready to release a long-term vision and action agenda for Chicago’s three rivers—Calumet, Chicago and Des Plaines—in summer 2016, which will help drive new investment in parks, job opportunities, housing and transportation along the Chicago, Calumet and Des Plaines rivers.
In Mayor Rahm Emanuel's March 22 “Building on Burnham” parks address, he singled out Great Rivers Chicago and called for making our rivers “part of our neighborhoods rather than a separate part of the city,” a key recommendation of the initiative. To learn more about additional Great Rivers Chicago’s recommendations and weigh in on the draft agenda, residents can attend any of four meetings coming up in April and May.
Meetings will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m., with the main presentation taking place at 6:15 p.m. We encourage any and all residents to attend the meeting in their community, or wherever they spend most time on the rivers. Please note: Because of space constraints, we ask that residents RSVP for the meeting they plan to attend. Registration is free.
Since March 2015, Great Rivers Chicago has collected input from 5,000-plus Chicago residents and researched existing plans and the current state of our rivers. To learn what we heard from communities and what we’ve learned from our research, click on the meeting location.
